A CLOSER LOOK
The Wedding Paper Detail Couples Forget
(But Guests Notice)
November 2025 | Winston-Salem, NC
Most brides spend months thinking about their invitations. The paper. The colors. The envelopes. The whole vibe. And honestly? They should. Your invitations are the first peek into your wedding day.
But here’s the thing most couples don’t realize until later: The paper your guests actually interact with the most… isn’t necessarily the invitation. It’s the pieces they see when they sit down at the reception table. The menu in front of them. The place card with their name on it. The little tag tied onto their favor.
These are the details guests touch, read, photograph, and keep throughout the night. And when they’re done thoughtfully? They quietly pull the whole wedding design together. Not in an over-the-top way. Not in a “look at me” way. Just in that subtle, everything feels really put together kind of way.
For this wedding, the invitations were already in the mail by the time the couple reached out to us. But that didn’t mean their paper story was finished. If anything, that’s when the fun details started.
Menus + Place Cards, All Tied Up
One of our favorite kinds of day-of paper moments? A two-in-one detail that’s both practical and beautiful.
For the reception tables, we designed menus for each place setting and tied them with long black ribbon that draped softly over the plates, adding movement and contrast to the table. Attached at the top of each menu was a coordinating name card so guests could easily find their seat.
It’s a small shift, but it makes a big impact. Instead of separate menus and place cards, everything worked together as one thoughtful design moment. The result felt polished, personal, and seriously photogenic.
Custom Wedding Favor Tags with a Personal Touch
The couple also had custom sunglasses made for their guests, printed with their initials and wedding date. To make the favor feel even more special, we designed coordinating tags to go with them.
Each tag was double-sided and tied with ribbon that matched the menus. One side featured an illustration of their dog (in a bow tie, obviously). The other side listed the guest’s name and table number.
It was playful, personal, and functional all at once…the kind of detail guests actually notice and remember.
How Day-Of Wedding Stationery Pulls Your Design Together
Even though we didn’t design the invitations, we worked closely with the couple’s existing style and color palette to make sure the paper we created felt completely cohesive with the rest of the day.
That’s the beauty of day-of paper. It connects all the dots between the big vision you’ve been planning and the actual experience your guests have when they sit down, pick up a menu, or find their seat. When it’s done well, it doesn’t feel like an extra detail, it feels like the finishing touch.
The AHD Difference
If your invitations are already handled, that doesn’t mean your wedding paper story is over. Thoughtful day-of details can still elevate the entire experience for your guests and bring everything together visually.
We’ll help you choose pieces that make sense for your celebration (check out this post for more day-of inspiration), guide you through the design process, and create details that feel true to your style.
At Anna Howe Design, we’re all about helping couples tell their story through paper—whether that’s a full invitation suite or a few meaningful day-of details. No matter where you are in the planning process, we’re here to help make sure everything feels cohesive, intentional, and unmistakably you.

Anna understood our vision and brought it to life in the most thoughtful, creative, and beautifully executed way.
One of our favorite parts was how she helped us incorporate our dog into the escort cards – such a fun and personal touch that our guests loved. Anna has a true talent for taking an idea and elevating it into something memorable and unique.
